What is Big Break?
- Big Break is a multi-week vocal competition; not-so-loosely based on American Idol
- It is free to enter and is available for anyone 21+ years old
- There is one round per week
- All weeks will be at the same venue, on the same night of the week, at the same time (unless something unusual occurs)
- 10 Rounds (so, the competition spans over 10 weeks)
- Rounds 1 and Rounds 2 are short nights. Each performer sings a song of their choice, up to one minute, a cappella (without music). Although the public is able to attend these rounds, only the judges will determine who moves on to the next rounds(very much like auditions)
- Rounds 3-10 are much bigger nights. The songs will be full songs, with backing tracks (and one week with a live band), an emcee. etc... Also, audience members are the ones determining who moves on to the next round and who is eliminated.
- There will be theme nights, night with multiple songs per contestants, battle rounds, duets ..........
- Each week, the amount of contestants decrease until there is only one winner - that winner received $10,000 from the venue.
- Big Break started in Chicago in 2005 and we're proud to have completed 21 seasons so far !!
